ORC Week 1 - Colorful Laundryroom Redo!

Hello all! Are you ready for another ORC ride of a lifetime? Well, come aboard for the next chapter. You will get a front-row view of design influencers and guest participants working tirelessly to decorate a space in 8 weeks. Progress updates will reveal improvements or potential obstacles that may pop up along the way.

My next plan of attack! - The laundry room. Currently, the space is minimally functional and lacks visual appeal. I registered last night and will limit my workload to a quick refresh.

ORC: Week 8 - Fun and Colorful Bedroom Reveal!

Hello lovelies! It's such a pleasure having you here today. After 8 weeks of hard work and determination, I've arrived at the finish line of the One Room Challenge...YAY! Be prepared to enter a world filled with bursts of colors, healthy fruit treats, a couple friends of the wild, and countless loads of fun.
Are you ready now for a dramatic and exciting reveal?
Well, ready or not, here it comes!

ORC: Week 3 - Painting and Priming!

Good day my lovelies and welcome to Week three of another ORC update! It's always a pleasure having you visit my little blog. This makeover began 3 weeks ago, so it would be best to visit Week 1 and Week 2  to see my plan and how I progressed to this point.

Let's start by saying that for the past few days I've been dabbling in paint and primer...lol. The first victim was this lovely bunk bed that my kids use whenever guests stay over. The little fellow wants it in his bedroom, so I'll be using it for a swap with his full-sized bed. My original instinct was to paint it all red, but I think it looks fine, as is. What do you all think?

ORC Week 2 - Mellow Yellow for my Little Fellow!

We are entering Week 2 of the One Room Challenge and my plan is to decorate a fun and colorful bedroom for my eight-year-old. The little fellow requested blue and yellow for his wall, and further begged me to brighten up the space. Kindly visit  Week 1 to see how it all started,

Now, let's get to the good part where all the colors bond together to partake in the fun. After much searching and pondering, I concluded with this plan:

Since it's a boy's bedroom, no pink or purple polka dot decals will be harmed in this makeover 😊. I will only be using the remaining colors .

Knock-Off Mirror for Girl's Bedroom - ORC: Week 3

Week Three of the One Room Challenge is upon us folks! Need I say more?

Between my daughter taking the Milestones exams and my son celebrating his birthday last week, I barely got anything done.

On another note, I fell in love with this wood beaded mirror and figured I could get away with a knock-off version except that mine is rectangular.

Personally, I think every princess deserves a full-length mirror in their bedroom, particularly for function.
And because pretty girls are the happiest, pretty rooms are necessary to keep them glowing. A beautifully designed frame adds style to a space, creating the perfect look of elegance. Also, if mirror frames are elaborate in design, they can improve a young lady's smile, which will be evident upon approach (... just made that up) 😀.

Tween Girl's Bedroom Redo - ORC: Week 2

Wow, Week one of the challenge flew by so quickly and I just can not believe we are already in Week two. Happily, I made some progress with painting the walls and getting the popcorn ceiling scraped. The ceiling was not previously mentioned in my plan 😊, however, I thought it would be fun to try something new.  I am still contemplating what tone would work well, or if I should use a certain technique to spruce it up. But knowing me, something will definitely strike my fancy at the last minute.

Here are a few accessories I picked up for the room

Well here are some photos of what I have been up to at this point.

I painted the room and I love it! While the former bright colors were lovely, I am enjoying a new look for a change.

Guest Bathroom Reveal! - ORC : Week 7

Hello everyone! Reveal day has finally come! For the first time in ORC history, we reveled in the excitement of a week's extension. Our host, Linda, graciously prioritized recent disaster victims.

A big thank you to my amazing sponsors - Pfister, HomeRight, and Sylvie Demers, who assisted me with the completion of this makeover.

… and without further ado, I present to you the long anticipated Guest Bathroom Makeover!

A reminder of how it all started

Guest Bathroom Update - ORC: Week 4

Before I begin, let me first say how happy I am to learn of the one week extension to the One Room Challenge, provided to us by Linda. I happened to have gotten this information from cocoandjack's blog, in case some of you are interested in verifying it.

Well, I must add that this week has been smooth-sailing, as I do not recall experiencing any hiccups. I patched and sanded the torn drywall, and painted the room. Although I plan on using wallpaper, it only adheres to painted surfaces, so painting was a must. I received the vanity, and I like the white, but I am really itching to paint it - decisions, decisions, hmmm. Also, after much seeking, I finally got a contractor who agreed to install the floor tiles this upcoming Saturday. Believe me when I say I cannot move forward until this happens because almost everything else is contingent upon the tile installation. I cannot have a vanity and toilet put in before they complete this work order. So, do you really know how excited I am about gaining an additional week? Super-excited! :)
The contractor will replace the tub/shower faucet this weekend, as well.

If you have been following along, you would recall I changed my design plan. Here are a few items I received to use in the space... I am in love with this wallpaper. The colors are so very subtle.

New Guest Bathroom Plan: Week 3 - ORC

With time swiftly passing, I catapulted into "Usain" mode, where I picked up some lightning speed  :). For those of you who are unfamiliar with the name Usain Bolt, he is a recently retired Jamaican sprinter, and is the first person to hold both the 100 and 200 meters world records since fully automatic time became mandatory.

Well, before I delve into my situation, let me first say thank you to my amazing sponsor, Pfister who graciously partnered with me to redo this space. I am eternally grateful for the brands that help to support this blog.

Now back to basics - if you have been following along, then you might recall the design board I previously posted for my bathroom makeover here. The plan included a very bright floral wallpaper, colorful pom pom basket, and a tassel shower curtain. Well, I should let you know, I received the wallpaper in the mail, and was very excited to have it hung. But alas, to my dismay, after unrolling it, I watched as the bathroom quickly drowned in all its brilliance. It was difficult to accept that the wallpaper dominated and overwhelmed the tiny space, when held up against the wall. This disappointment quickly prompted a change, however, and here I am today, with a new plan of action; ready and anxious to execute. I have included links to the items in case you are interested in purchasing.

A Touch of Metallic - How to Spray Paint Brass Knobs - ORC: Week 5

Week 5 has arrived and oh how quickly it came!
As of yesterday, this was the situation regarding the door knobs - Old, dated shiny brass.

Fast-forward to today -I removed the knobs, hinges, and strike plates from the door and gave them quick coats of

*Edited* - Note: Should you decide to take on this project, you need to pay close attention to how the plates are installed (or, you could just check the other doors in the house). This is important when putting the door back up.

Just lay out all the pieces on an impermeable surface to protect your paint area. In this case I used a huge piece of cardboard.

I inserted the screws into a piece of cardboard to get to paint the tips (Foam would have worked as well). I needed them to have the same color as the plates. I also used a light sander to scuff up the knobs to make the paint adhere to them.

The spray paint was so easy to work with, and having a newly designed nozzle, made the job less tedious. After 3 full coats, they were ready. However, I thought it best to wait a few days for the paint to cure. Of course that's a personal preference.

The results yielded a very beautiful shade of bronze. I like it  A  LOT! It reads grey on screen but it is actually a metallic bronze. If you look closely you will see the tiny specks of metallic. Believe me when I say the result is amazing.

Here's a before and after so you can see the difference.

Untitled #14

There is not much to show for this week because I am saving it all for the grand reveal next Thursday. Please return to see the completed space all decked out :)

Mudroom Wallpaper - ORC: Week 4

It's week 4 and I am lagging behind - seemingly. I had a very interesting week which I won't get into but thankfully I had the wallpaper installed and I LOVE IT! Time and time again I read where bloggers keep revisiting a space after a makeover. This always makes me smile a little because it is a commonality we all share, right? However, my obsession began right after this wild wallpaper print went up. Mind you, the room is far from being complete, yet I stop every moment, just to stare...ha!

This was my first time working with wallpaper but it was so easy to put up. Removable wallpaper is the way to go if you need something quick and easy with no commitment. I worked my way from the top, down and used a credit card to smooth out the air bubbles. That paper "aint going nowhere."

"And I know-oo I'm never letting this go-ooo
I'm stuck on you
Whutooo whutooo
Stuck like glue" - Sugarland

On a side note, the shelf I ordered for the space was so low, we needed to bend our heads to sit. Remember this is an under-the-stair space so the sloped ceiling came down quite a bit. I came up with a new idea which will have me eliminating the bins.

Check out these art I bought a while back from Kirkland's. They go so well with the wallpaper. I am having a change of heart, and the clock's a ticking.

Mudroom Necessities: ORC- Week 3

Am I dreaming, seriously, are we really in week three? I am truly amazed by how fast the days creep up on us. I remained totally oblivious so much so that I nearly missed our day of posting. I had to remind myself of what day it was to ensure I had it correct. Anyhow, progress is guaranteed. Even though I did not get much done, I was happy when the set for the mudroom arrived. Thankfully, my spouse put it together so I could have something to show today 😊.

The pieces are exquisite! Well, to me they are...lol. The top is a shelf and coat rack in one. There is also room for hangers on the metal rod.

The bench fits perfectly in the space and provides storage for shoes underneath. I "hope" to make a seat cushion for it...wish me luck.

For some reason, I feel nervous about putting up the wallpaper. I guess I am afraid I might ruin it. Well, fear or no fear, sooner or later I will need to do it, so, "wallpaper, here I come!" :).

As usual thanks for stopping by, and have an enjoyable weekend! Don't forget to check out what my fellow participants are up to this week as well.

Mudroom Progress - ORC: Week 2

Hello everyone! Welcome to week 2 of the One Room Challenge, where 20 designers and more than 200 linking participants redesign and decorate a space in just 6 short weeks. I am currently working on my mudroom, and as a reminder here is my design plan for the space. You can check out Week 1 here.

Over the weekend I proceeded to rip out the carpet, remove the wire shelf, and install flooring .

I also painted the unsloped section of the ceiling. I intend to cover the other part with wallpaper. It appears a bit sloppy right now but I assure you it will be neatly finished in the end 🙂.

Next up will be this stunning wallpaper that I am itching to see in place. I am totally in love with this print. On a side note, my son owns the set of Paw Patrol toys and my favorite in the group is, (you guessed it!) Marshall, the dalmatian. Moms seemingly cannot resist becoming trapped in the toy frenzy these days.

Despite how quickly each day passes, I cannot complain because I am blessed to be part of it. If I patiently stay afloat, and remain intentional, I will get to the finish line. Thanks for stopping by.
I wish for you a very Happy and fulfilling Easter Weekend!
Kindly head over to Calling It Home  and check out all other projects linked to this Challenge.

Mudroom Makeover: ORC - Week 1

Hi folks! I am back again for yet another One Room Challenge. This time I plan on redoing my 'so-called' mudroom - a tiny space under the stairs where we toss our everyday shoes, hats, scarves etc. Unfortunately, it lacks total functionality where our needs are concerned. The space opens to the kitchen, and because it has no seating accommodation, everyone uses the dining chairs when putting on their shoes. We occasionally hang coats on hangers which creates added challenge, particularly when trying to promote independence among the little ones. Despite my disgruntlement, I am thankful for one thing; current day innovation! - which brings to the world, hooks, hooks, and more hooks.

My plan includes:

  • Addition of seating - Bench
  • Hooks/Shelf
  • Wallpaper
  • Painting - Ceiling (Black)
  • Art - To brighten the space
  • Transparent Bins - For accessories: Sunglasses, Sunblock lotion etc.
  • Flooring

Mudroom Design Plan

As you can see, it is an extremely tiny space, but no worries, I have BIG plans to spruce it up.

Well, that's it for now. Please follow along as I attempt to make over this room. Thanks for stopping by...hope to see you again next week!

Now hurry over to Linda's Blog and check to see what everyone else is up to.

ORC: Week 5 - Dining room Makeover

Welcome to Week 5 of the One Room Challenge, and thanks for following along. I am in total disbelief we have only one week left before the grand reveal. I must say, it has been an exciting, yet intense four weeks, but I am super happy I did not rescind. Slow and steady wins the race, so 'hang in there' my fellow participants.

Take a look at my DIY brush stroke lamps. They are now done and ready to shine, (pun intended)...ha!

I cannot tell you the many times I shook my hands while holding the brush, to calm my nerves before painting. All fear took flight after I did my first test-run on a sheet of paper.

As luck would have it, the lamps came out looking quite lovely. I love them so much I plan on using this same technique again. My next step now, is to find two shades that match them.

The buffet drawers are stained, and the color is starting to set in.

I am still on the hunt for artwork, after receiving two orders with the glass broken into pieces, ughh! But not to worry; challenges and successes work together for a great show. After today, the next post should reveal a finished and completed dining room space. Check out my weekly progress by clicking on each week's link; Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, and Week 4. Thanks for stopping by, and kindly pay Linda's blog a visit to see more than 100 rooms in progress.
A big thank you to my sponsor Lamps Plus for helping to make this makeover possible!
Have an excellent day/weekend, and please remember to reset your clocks backward 1 hour this Sunday night!

Take a Look - Stunning Chandelier! Week 4

Hello everyone! We are now in the fourth week of the One Room Challenge, and I am extremely excited, anxiously awaiting the completion of all the room makeovers. I am in the middle of redecorating my dining space, and would like to share this gorgeous chandelier with you all. It is the very stunning Vienna Full Spectrum Beverly 26" Wide Crystal Chandelier in a bronze finish, from Lamps Plus. As you can see, it is adorned with beautiful clear crystals, and I really, really, love it!

It was super easy to install, and was quickly done by my husband who, I can assure you, is by no means an electrician. I suggested the addition of a ceiling medallion to enhance its looks.

My four year old refers to the large round crystal, extending from the center, as a "disco ball" :-).

Lamps Plus has a huge selection, and I must admit I had a hard time deciding on which chandelier to choose for the room. In the end I managed to narrow it down to these.
From left to right -
1. Gaviota Pendant  2. Vienna Full Spectrum  3. Possini Euro Nicol  4. Possini Euro Crystal

From there on I figured out which light fixture would most suitably work in the space. The room is close to completion, and should be as we are in the final stretch.

I painted the brush stroke lamps and they seemingly overwhelm the space. They are large lamps, 24" high to be exact, but not to worry, plan B is set in motion, in case plan A fails.

The table is being stained and the change is already evident in the finish.

I need to mention a minor disappointment I experienced yesterday. My artwork arrived broken in pieces; however I managed to work it out, and should receive a replacement within 24 hours. Well, that is all for now. Thanks for stopping by and please check out the other spaces over at Calling it Home.

Have a great day/weekend!

This post was sponsored by Lamps Plus who provided me with this stunning chandelier. All opinions are completely mine. I appreciate sponsors like these who support my endeavors with regard to this blog!
