One Room Challenge: Week 1 - Plan for Peyton's Room

It's here again! The long anticipated ORC! I am so excited to begin work on my son's future bedroom.

As you can see, the room is lacking in so many ways, but I plan to change all that real soon. It has been vacant for such a long time that it seemed like a detached part of the house. The furniture will be replaced; also the wall stencils....lol {those stencils look way worse up close, believe me :-) }
My inspiration had come from here.

My son is only 2 1/2 years old, yet does have a mind of his own. He is able to state his likes versus his dislikes quite verbally, and expresses a love for cars, (or anything with wheels). He is very excited and keeps saying, "this is my room" :-)

My goal for this space includes an automotive theme, coupled with small touches of things little boys adore (trains, dinosaurs etc.).
The color scheme I am going for is light blue and navy blue, with orange and green accents.

Plan

1. Paint
2. Install ceiling fan
3. Purchase dresser
4. Buy mattress and box spring (already have a convertible crib)
5. Buy bed frame
6. Add side table
7. Add art
8. Rugs and accessories
9. Add curtains and rod
10. Mount wall lamps

Here are few inspiration pictures...

Well that about wraps it up for my first week. I am as excited as always to be part of this challenge. Thanks Linda, for the encouragement :-). Kindly check out the plans of the other linking participants and have a great day!

  1. How fun! I look forward to seeing what you come up with for your son. I finished a room for my 2 year old son (now 2 and a half) during the spring ORC and I think kids' spaces are the most fun!

  6. The orange navy color combination is so fun. I hope your son loves it. Boys rooms always seem so hard to decorate, but the inspiration you chose makes it look easy. Have fun over the next six weeks!

  10. What a fun space this is going to be. I cannot wait to see your progress and how it all unfolds.

I too am participating in the One Room Challenge. My challenges? I just moved to a completely new state (Texas) last week and therefore have no idea where to source things other than Wal Mart and Home Depot. :) I am currently battling strep throat and just want to lay around and eat soup as opposed to transforming a 30 year old polyurethaned oak coffered ceiling that has never before seen paint. The accompanying powder room rivals the worst gas station stall ever. But a bonus is that the previous owners installed a wine glass and bottle holder on the ceiling of the bathroom. I kid you not. Come take a peek.

    1. Wow! I'm so sorry you have the strep. I hope you'll feel better soon. You have a lot of work on your hands but I'm confident you can do it. BTW, I saw the wine holder in the bathroom. The original owners must have been oenophiles; lovers of fine wine :-)
