ORC - Playroom Update: Week 4

Hello everyone! Welcome back. I promised 'a little bit of pretty' this week, to compensate for my lack thereof in last week's post :-). Hopefully what I am about to show you, in some ways, qualify.
The Pendant light for the space is first on the list. It arrived on Monday, and I am happy to say that I received help from Mr. G to both assemble and install it. The fixture looks so beautiful, and fits perfectly in the room. I wish I had a better camera in my possession to capture it's full beauty, (hopefully soon) :-).

Next up, are these stripes. My three year old son is a huge fan. His exact words, "mommy, it looks so nice!" Well, what do you know, I love that wall, too.

ORC - Playroom Update with Paint: Week 3

We are halfway into the One Room Challenge, and I have 'maximized my speed' in trying to get things done.

"There is a first time for everything". Never in the history of me participating in the ORC, have I ever received such support. My little 3 year old volunteered to help me paint, (bless his dear heart), Mr G, and also my daughter. I truly appreciate every little help I can get :-).

To date, the playroom is being painted. The white wall to the left, will be done in stripes. Hopefully I will get this done before the week ends, so I can have the shade put up.

ORC - Playroom Design Plan: Week 2

It is already Week 2 of the One Room Challenge, and happily, I maintain my motivation to continue. While working on a few projects, I managed to put together a design board for the space.

Playroom Design Plan
Few pieces from this plan, are already in my possession, so I will need to buy the remaining items. Excitement is an understatement, as I anticipate the fun work ahead :-).

Next week I will have more to show as I persistently progress. Thanks for stopping by, and please remember to follow along with the team for lots of inspiration. Special thanks to Linda, our host. Have a great weekend!

ORC - Kids' Playroom Makeover: Week 1

Wow! Am I actually participating in the One Room Challenge again! Could someone please pinch me. I am beginning to think I have become addicted to this very alluring, and enticing event. Considering this will be my 6th consecutive makeover, I do admit to being hooked :-).

As a result of being very busy lately, I thought long and hard about whether or not to join in. My kids' playroom is in dire need of 'help', so I just could not resist the compelling urge that nudged me into action.

For this challenge, I will be decorating "yes", another of my kids' space: the  playroom. I really enjoy seeing the look on their faces at the completion of these challenges.

I had begun work on it, but as per usual, lost the motivation to continue.

Here are few inspirational photos I gathered from the Internet.

One Room Challenge: Week 6 - Kids' Gender-Neutral Bathroom Reveal!

The day is finally here! After much anxiety, and worry, I am happy to report that, "I did it!"

My children were extremely excited to see their new space, and were beaming with delight the first time they laid eyes on it. I am praying, that now, they will stay  out of my bathroom :-).

The theme for the bathroom is "under the sea". I tried as much to incorporate little touches of things relative to sea life.

The fishes appear to be naturally swimming in this photo. I love it so much because it creates the illusion of movement.

These wall art were made using pages of a storybook. I think they add a fun element to the bathroom.

DIY Life Preservers made using mirrors

What is a hippo doing in an 'under the sea' themed bathroom, you might ask. He was already part of the bathroom, so I decided to let him stay.
Meet Matey Anchors
The orange mirror is one of my favorites. I really ventured away from my comfort zone this time, and just 'went for it'.

The penguin is on the look out for fishes...lol.

Eek! My son is crazy about this shark. Personally, I think it looks spooky, those eyes :-).

I spray-painted the step stool which was originally pink, and added this fun saying, 'OUCH!' {If you are over 50 lbs, beware :-) }.

Legs added to vanity.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?!

I thought of a way to encourage my kids to use a hamper. Believe it or not, I made this having a sea monster in mind, until my little son accidentally saw it and shouted, "I see a sponge, I see a sponge!" Then it dawned on me, 'O.M.G., it looks like Sponge bob' (I kid you not). Considering I wash every other day, this size is perfect for such a task. Hopefully, my kids will be inclined to give their dirty clothes to Sponge bob.

This is a little water fountain I have had for more than ten years. Surprisingly, it still works. I did a little upgrading.
The fountain is battery-operated, which enables it to light up. The water also flows continually while it is on.
Friendly reminder in pirate's term

...and one final picture
I am so happy everything is finally over.

A big thanks to Linda, the incredible host of this great challenge. Might I add, she takes the time out to visit each and every little blog. I really appreciate her. Thanks for stopping by, and do not forget to visit the other linking participants and also the designers to offer some support.

Happy Mother's Day! Have a great day/weekend!

One Room Challenge - Week 5: Sneak Peek of Progress

I have been painting away at the white section of the wall, and seemingly the paint covered nothing. The bathroom was originally pink and green, so it required a lot of white paint to cover up the bright colors.

That really slowed things down: installation of the accessories and molding, and also, laying of the tiles.
Fortunately, all is not lost because I was able to work on (2 mirrored life preservers) for the wall.

One Room Challenge: Week 4 - Paint and Accessories

This week, I painted the walls, and also put together few accessories for the bathroom. Despite my previous design plan, I needed to meet with my clients (kids), before making any final decisions :-). After all, they are the ones who will be sharing the space.

I quickly received a stamp of approval when each of them was asked to take a look at the partially painted room. Upon entering, they both echoed, "Wow, I like it!"
STILL NEEDS ANOTHER COAT
I painted the bottom half navy to allow room for adding a variety of fun colors to the top. The blue moderately brightens up the space, and also creates balance, by decreasing the amount of intensity sometimes felt when using a bright color in a small space. I absolutely love the way it turned out.

Considering the bouts of anxiety suffered trying to decide on the most suitable paint design, I can now breathe a sigh of relief. Enthusiastically, after having watched my vision take flight, I became motivated to do some necessary shopping :-).
Home Goods was my 'go to store' for few accessories, mainly these two holders. I love the contrast offered by each, and believe their geometric shapes add to the cohesive look I aim to achieve. I must add, they are the thickest I have ever seen.

These stackable wire baskets are also from Home Goods. They are both functional and versatile, which enhances their ability to fit perfectly inside the vanity cabinet.

My kids' favorite: Wrought Iron Seahorse and Mermaid Hooks found at Hobby Lobby (spray-painted white)

By the way, I decided to redo the floor, and will focus on fixing it in the upcoming week.

Well, thanks for stopping by, and do not forget to visit, and offer some support to the other linking participants over at Calling it Home.
Have a great day/weekend!
